5 of the Easiest Health Resolutions to Make This New Year

It’s the time of the year when we all start setting ourselves New Year’s resolutions. Unfortunately, most of us will set unrealistic goals and give up on them by February. But the truth is, not all New Year’s resolutions have to be tough!

Here are five easy-peasy resolutions you can make to improve your health and wellbeing in the new year.

1. Quit the crash diets

From supermodels to Kardashian-Jenners, everywhere we look there’s a celeb peddling a new ‘wonder’ diet. Sure, the cabbage soup diet or dukkan diet might work in the short term. But it’s been proven that extreme dieting has no long-term benefits. Cutting out entire food groups means you are missing out on the variety of nutrients you need. And seriously restricting calories or skipping meals will send the body into starvation mode and slow down your metabolism. Eeek!

So stop seeking the quick fix, and think of food as fuel. Make a few clever food swaps, eat a wide range of whole foods (especially superfoods) and move more. Simple!

2. Use a foam roller

A few easy exercises at home using a foam roller can help increase blood flow, improve range of motion and improve recovery. And not just after a workout. In fact, physiotherapist Jane Lau recommends all patients use a foam roller at the end of the day to release chest tightness caused by a long day at the computer. Lying lengthways on the roller, let your arms fall out to the side in a ‘T’ position, and wrap your shoulder blades around the roller. You’ll soon feel some sweet relief.

3. Try a teatox

If you’re feeling sluggish, bloated or struggling to tame your sweet tooth, try a Teatox. A SkinnyMint Teatox includes delicious morning and night-time tea blends expertly formulated to cleanse and energize. The Night Cleanse aids digestion, with 91% of customers surveyed reporting an improvement in bloating.

Packed full of energy-boosting ingredients like green tea and guarana, Morning Boost is a delicious, fruity drink to enjoy with breakfast. It’s a lighter, antioxidant-rich alternative to a milky coffee. And it’s virtually calorie free!

4. Get more sleep

It’s called beauty sleep for a reason. Sleep is a vital time for the body to repair itself, from the inside out. And many of us just aren’t getting enough! Seven to eight hours is the general recommendation, with one study finding that less than six hours a night may contribute to premature death!

Too little sleep and your concentration and decision-making skills will suffer. So create some relaxing pre-bed rituals, such as a sleep-inducing snack or a mini meditation. And leave the tech out of the bedroom.

5. Find a workout buddy

Fact: working out with your BFF is double the fun. And it can also be better for your booty. True! Exercising in a group of duo can bring out your competitive spirit. So you’ll want to be the fastest, strongest or most flexible. Plus, it’s much harder to skip an early morning workout sesh when you know you’re letting someone else down.
