Just because you want to lose weight, you don’t have to give up all your favorite foods! In fact, a little bit of the foods you love will help keep you satisfied and motivated to achieve your goals.

It’s not just about cutting back on portion sizes either, or eating pizza less often. Although that might help… Here are six easy – and delicious – food swaps to try today. Dig in!

Swap a burger for a… naked burger

Load her up with salad, and wrap the patty in lettuce for a clean, green crunch. Yum!

Those buns your regular burger joint uses are mostly white, high GI and loaded with sugar. No wonder you’re hooked! A takeaway beef burger packs a serious fat and calorie punch, too. And once your blood sugar crashes, you’ll be left reaching for the Coke for another energy rush.

For a virtually guilt-free meal at home, whip out your frying pan, and grill your own patties from ultra-lean beef mince. Load her up with salad, and wrap the patty in lettuce for a clean, green crunch. Yum!

Swap takeaway pizza for… homemade, wholemeal pizza

A homemade pizza wins hands down when it comes to your waistline.

Not all pizzas are created equal, and a homemade pizza wins hands down when it comes to your waistline. For a leaner, crispier version, add your chosen toppings to wholemeal pitta bread. Make your own tomato paste to seriously cut the sugar, and load with a rainbow of veggies, and not too much cheese. It’s the authentic Italian way!

Swap spaghetti bolognaise for… zoodle bolognaise

Zucchini noodles have the perfect al dente texture, with the added benefit of not lulling you into a carb coma.

Pasta’s not the enemy, but there’s no denying that simple, white carbs aren’t exactly bikini body food. For a lighter, nutrient-rich alternative, invest in a spiralizer. Zucchini noodles have the perfect al dente texture, with the added benefit of not lulling you into a carb coma. And when it comes to sauces, we don’t need to tell you that tomato has fewer calories than cream… do we?

Swap potato crisps for… homemade popcorn

We get it. Sometimes you just need to mindlessly munch on something salty in front of Netflix. But, sorry to break it to you, crisps are high in saturated fat and a total sodium bomb. We could tell you just to snack on carrot sticks if you want that crunch. But we’re not that mean!

Popcorn still has that slightly naughty feel, since it’s cinema food. But… here’s where we get strict. Microwave popcorn is not going to cut it! Ask for an air popper for Christmas, and you’ll be rewarded with endless low-calorie entertainment. Drizzle with some olive oil and cayenne pepper for a light and savoury snack. Or a little cinnamon and honey if you’re more of a sweet tooth.

Swap your chicken korma for… tandoori fish

To cut the fat, stick to seafood, veggies and chicken.

Indian food is ah-mazing, but it’s often regarded as a diet disaster. And usually for good reason. Think about how you feel after a creamy, meaty curry on a mountain of rice? Probably tired, bloated and like you’ll never eat again! To cut the fat, stick to seafood, veggies and chicken, steer clear of calorific curries, skip the naan bread altogether (sorry!) and pick from the leaner options cooked in the tandoor oven.

Swap ice cream for … banana ice cream

Want creamy, dreamy rich ice cream, without all the added sugar, fat and goodness knows what else? Grab your bananas and get blending. Here’s how.
