Have you heard of a condition called Angel Envy? It’s a little-recognized ailment that many of us suffer from once a year during the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
Yep, as soon as those models hit the runway in their over-the-top lingerie, killer heels and angel wings we come over all hot and sweaty as we break into instant lunges to get our bods Angel-worthy.
But we are one step closer to earning our wings (and curing Angel Envy for good) with these Victoria’s Secret fitness strategies. Get your jewel-encrusted bras ready ladies — you’ll be needing them sooner than you think.
Victoria’s Secret models loves a good cardio workout.
“When I am in NYC I always go for a run outside, along the Hudson River, and I really love that,” Doutzen Kroes told Vogue.co.uk. “But I also do lots of boxing and jump rope training.
“I love to get really sweaty and have a tough workout and so my best workouts are mostly cardio. They do good, but they make you feel good at the same time.”
Cardio exercises will help you get an awesome angel bod by giving your body an all-over workout, helping you to shed any excess weight, while increasing your fitness level at the same time.
Stretching and lengthening
Stretching and lengthening are important for your Victoria’s Secret workouts, as Devon Windsor confirmed when speaking to Elle.com.
“For exercise, I am doing a lot of Pilates. I am very tight and not very flexible and so it is a nice balance between stretching and doing exercises,” she said.
Workouts like yoga, Pilates and ballet help to lengthen and stretch your muscles. Mix it up with high intensity exercises, like boxing, to balance out your routine.
But even Victoria’s Secret models have to put in extra effort before a show, as Candice Swanepoel admitted to Vogue.co.uk.
“I’m fit all year round, but about three weeks before the show I do step it up a bit. I have to eat a lot more, so I can work out a lot more. I like to feel really strong: to have a good bum and strong legs on the catwalk, so I really focus on that,” she said.
Remember, there is no fixed formula to working out. Every body has a different problem area to work on. Know what yours is and work towards your personal goal.
Try lunges for your legs, butt and abs; planks for building core strength, and squats for a nice butt.
Get fit with a plan
Think long-term. Lindsay Ellingson, like all Victoria’s Secret models, works throughout the year on cardio and toning and amps up her fitness routine nearer to the show.
“That last week before the show, I focus on my abs and my butt the most, because those are the areas that are going to give you that beautiful, sexy, hourglass shape. That’s how I feel sexiest in lingerie,” she told Brydie.com.
This way, you know you’ll look good any time of the year, and even better whenever you step up your routine.
Hire a trainer and learn something new

Having a trainer introduces discipline and focus in your routine. In addition, personal trainers help to correct and enhance your workout capacity while allowing you to develop new skills and motivation in the long-run.
“…I do a lot of squats and weight lifting with my personal trainer three times a week,” Chanel Iman told Shape.com.
A little tight on your budget? Opt for short-term personal training programs that are more wallet-friendly.
You are what you eat
Do you know that looking good is about 85 per cent nutrition and 15 per cent exercise? The saying “You are what you eat” is (almost) literally true.
“Everything starts with nutrition and what you eat. I really watch my portions, and work out when I can — it is definitely hard with work and my two kids,” Adriana Lima told Foxnews.com.
Plug in and work out
Use music to motivate you the way the Angels do.
Michael Olajide is Doutzen Kroes and Adriana Lima’s trainer and he spilled to Teenvogue.com on the music styles that get the girls going.
“Adriana loves new electronica for her workouts. For Doutzen, her husband is a DJ, so he works with incredible electronic and house music, which is extremely motivating. It has a great pace, so you can really move to it. Some of the girls also like hip hop, such as Jay Z or Rick Ross,” he said.
Curate your workout playlist for your next kickass sesh. According to Olajide, your song selection flow should get you more hyped up as you workout. End your last song with the strongest impact.
